POLICE OFFICER

SUMMARY
Patrols assigned beat in patrol car or on bicycle to control traffic,
prevent crime or disturbance of peace, and arrest violators by
performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Familiarizes self with beat and with persons living in area.
Answers calls for service from Police Dispatch office.
Notes suspicious persons and establishments and reports to superior
officer.
Completes and maintains various records to book and process prisoners.
Prepares reports to document arrest information such as name, address,
charge, and arresting officer and seals and records personal property of
prisoner.
Reports dangers in streets such as holes, obstructions, high water, or
leaking mains by making inspection tours of the City.
Fingerprints and searches prisoners.
Disperses unruly crowds at public gatherings.
Renders first aid at accidents and investigates causes and results of
accident.
Directs and reroutes traffic around fire or other disruption.
Warns or arrests persons violating City Ordinances.
Issues tickets to traffic violators.
Writes and files daily activity report with superior officer.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job

EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Minimum
requirements include high school diploma or GED. Must hold a minimum of
an intermediate certificate by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Able to speak the English language fluently.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND
ABILITIES
Reasoning ability and common sense.
Ability to respond regularly and promptly to work during regular
business hours; skill in
effectively planning work activities and utilizing resources; and
ability to deal tactfully with the sometimes hostile public.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES,
REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid class “C” or
higher Texas Driver’s License w/good driving record. Knowledge and
appropriate certification to perform the essential functions of the job
and firearm qualified.
Ability and desire for continued personal and
professional development to achieve higher levels of certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Mobility such as sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, vision,
hearing, talking, writing, pushing, reaching above shoulder level, and
lifting up to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Sometimes a frequent change of tasks.
Work is performed in all weather conditions; the work atmosphere demands
multiple duties and involves maintaining open lines of communication and
working closely with others as part of a team.
COMMENTS
Applicant selected for hire
shall be able to pass drug and alcohol screen testing and medical
examination.
