SHOREACRES SHORTS - February 2005

DON’T Forget Your Valentine!

More Intersection News (Shoreacres Blvd, @ HWY 146)

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will schedule a public meeting in the not too distant future regarding design alternatives for the Intersection of Shoracres Boulevard and Highway 146.  An informational meeting was held on January 24 at HYC prior to the official city council meeting.  TxDOT officials presented two potential designs and also reported on the status of the project.  A good number of citizens attended and asked some great questions.  Thanks to everyone who chose to participate.

 Filing for City Council Candidacy

Three (3) At-Large positions for Alderman will be voted on in the upcoming May 7 city election.  The first day for filing for a place on the ballot is Monday, February 7, 2005.   The deadline to file is March 7 at 5:00 P.M.  The candidate packets are now ready at city hall for those interested in running.  Any adult citizen of Shoreacres who has resided in the city for at least six (6) months by election day is eligible to run for the office of Alderman (seat on the City Council).

 How to Report Odors

Smell something bad?  Don’t automatically think it’s your neighbor.  It could be an accidental release of a dangerous vapor or gas from a nearby chemical plant.  You can report odors to Harris County Pollution Control 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at 713-920-2831.  They will send out an investigator, generally

within two hours.  The sooner they receive the call, the more likely they will be able to trace the odor to its source.

 Loose Dogs

Last month it was Coyotes, this month it’s dogs.  Loose dogs that drive people crazy.  Seriously, have a little respect for others and keep your dog in a fenced yard, inside your house or on a leash.  It’s the law.

Limbs Still Needed for Heron Park

Small limbs are still needed to line the trails at Heron Park.  The limbs should be no larger than 6 inches in diameter and 5 feet in length.  Please no debris or tree trunks.  If you have any, please call Mary Beth Maher, 281-471-4745 or Tracy Revak, 281-471-3425.

Employee/Citizen of the Year Nominations Wanted

The City of Shoreacres recognizes one employee and one citizen each year for his or her outstanding contributions to the community.  We are now soliciting nominations for Employee and Citizen of the Year 2004.  Please submit your nomination at City Hall or with your water bill.  City Council will honor the winners at a City Hall Council meeting and on a plaque at City Hall.

 Reminders:

® City Council Meetings in February are scheduled on the 14th & 28th 7:00 P.M. at City Hall.  Agendas are posted at City Hall at least 3 days prior.  Citizens are encouraged to attend! Visit the City of Shoreacres website at www.cityofshoreacres.us.

®Help fight local crime by being observant.  If you see anything suspicious (or a loose dog) call the non-emergency Police Dispatch at 281-326-5900.  Together we can make a difference.
